Slovakia issued a coin in honor of an astronomer of the XVIII century

In Slovakia, a collectible silver coin with a face value of 10 euros was issued, dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birth of astronomer Rudolf Maximilian Höll. The new product was made at the Kremnica Mint, the circulation was 9.3 thousand copies (quality coins: brilliant uncirculated – 2.8 thousand, proof – 6.5 thousand). the diameter of the specimen is 34 mm. The obverse shows a scientist exploring the starry sky. The figure is located between the coat of arms of Slovakia and the nominal value, with the inscription "SLOVENSKO" and "2020" at the top. The reverse shows Maximilian Höll, with the years "1720-1792" and the name "MAXIMILIÁN HELL"on the left. The inscription "PRIEKOPNÍK MODERNEJ ASTRONOMICKEJ VEDY" is located on the gurt.

Maximilian Höll was born In banská štiavnica, studied philosophy, mathematics, theology, and was a Jesuit priest. In 1755, he became head of the Vienna Observatory. During polar expeditions, he observed Venus. Höll was not limited to astronomy, but was interested in history, Ethnography, geography, and meteorology. A crater on the moon is named after the scientist.
