In Georgia, in the territory of the Gonio-Apsaros museum-reserve, archaeologists have discovered a treasure consisting of coins from the Roman era.
Dozens of bronze and silver coins were discovered by the Polish-Georgian team of archaeologists during excavations of the ancient Roman fort of Apsaros. According to scientists, the find may be part of a larger treasure.
The oldest of the discovered coins were minted during the reign of Emperor Hadrian (117-138 years), the youngest - during the reign of the Emperor Septimius Severus (198-211).
They were minted at the mint in Caesarea Cappadocia, the capital of the ancient Roman province, located almost 1000 km from Apsaros.
It is assumed that the money could conceal the Roman soldiers before another campaign.
