In 1845, the sculptor Eugène Thivier was born in Paris, the author of monuments and compositions created in the neoclassical style, close to symbolism. At the beginning of his life, the future master faced a lack of understanding: his parents were cold to Eugene's desire to engage in creative work. This did not prevent him from becoming a student of outstanding personalities: Albert Besnard, Charlotte Dubray, Pierre Loison.

In 1865, the works of the young sculptor were exhibited at the Paris salon, one of the most prestigious art exhibitions organized in France. In 1887, Eugene Thivier joined the French community of artists. Among his works, the most famous are the monument to Alfred Sisley, the composition "Nightmare", the Fontaine de Jouvence.

The sculpture "Nightmare" (Le Cauchemar) was created in 1894, today it is stored in Toulouse (France). This is an allegorical representation of a terrible dream, represented as a sleeping woman and a gargoyle sitting on her. The monument to the landscape artist Sisley was opened in 1911 and still adorns the city square Samua in the city of Moret-sur-Loing. There is a bronze bust on a high stone pedestal. Below it is a sculpture of a girl dressed in a light tunic. On Violity one of the master's works is displayed – a bronze figure "Young Man", cast in the workshop of the Thibault brothers.
