Sabers, swords, swords of past years can be absolutely ordinary objects, or they can be the work of weaponry. The lot, which was exhibited at Violiti at the end of last month, belongs to the second category.

According to expert discussion, the origin of the light cavalry sabers, which was in service with the Russian Imperial Army, is French. Its design consisted of a blade of slight curvature with two lobes and a hilt. The scabbard is made of steel, supplemented by two nuts with rings and shoes.

The black handle is adorned with a brass bushing on top. Ephesus includes the main and two side branches, which converge in an arched connection and end with a pommel.
The design of the saber made it possible to deliver not only chopping, but also stabbing blows.

After the French-Russian War of 1812, the monarchy in France was restored. Nevertheless, Russia, as a victorious country, continued to exert its influence on many areas of its life. Including the design of the weapon, as indicated by this lot.

The French cavalry in 1845 consisted of about 21 thousand troops, in 1856 - 30 thousand, in 1870 - 18 thousand and 28 thousand in 1914. Over the years, she used this type of saber in European conflicts and abroad. This went on for almost 150 years.
