In Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, workers dug a massive stone statue of a lion. Excavations are being carried out near The Wat Phnom temple, where a new pumping station will soon be built. The statue was located underground at a depth of almost 4 m. In height, the lion reaches 2.4 m, but it is badly damaged - the sculpture is divided into two parts.

Similar lions are installed near the main pagoda of the Wat Phnom temple, but they are not as large as the found artifact. The Ministry of culture and fine arts believes that this sculpture decorated another structure, which is located in a completely different place. The lion might have been moved, and for some reason it was left here.

So far, there is no information indicating the era in which the lion was made. Experts study the composition of the stone to determine the approximate date of creation. Very often, related artifacts that are located near the main find help in determining dates. But in this case, apart from the stone lion, nothing has been found yet.
