Mariage based on the Vacheron Constantin pocket watch movement was exhibited on Violiti's website earlier this week. Its Swiss precision is simply impossible not to admire.

The exposed margin is made of hand-engraved stainless steel. It also adorns the mechanism, which, according to archival data, dates from 1903-1905. Microregulator Patent 1884. The skeletonized silver dial features the company logo and an “arc” of Arabic numerals.

If we turn to the dictionary, then the word "marijage" has several meanings. Two of them are marriage and a card term for matching suits. But how does this relate to watchmaking?

Marriage is understood as the rearrangement of pocket watches into modern wrist cases. And here is the connection with marriage and cards. After all, in order to "merge together" a new case with an old mechanism, the suits must match. As is the case with this watch, the mechanism of which is made in a floral pattern. The latter dates from 1905-1910.

Mariage is used in cases where the case of an antique watch loses its visual appeal - dents, scratches or chips appear. But the state of the mechanism is ideal. Or when you so want to see an antique pocket watch on your hand.

Vacheron Constantin is a Swiss brand with a long history. It was founded in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron. This master of watchmaking sold chronographs to aristocrats from Italy and France. Vacheron's most famous clients were Napoleon Bonaparte's wives.
