During excavations in one of the most ancient cities of Asia Minor, Kanish (Turkey), archaeologists came across artifacts Dating back 4.5 thousand years. These small figures were idols worshipped by the Hittites, the inhabitants of a powerful ancient Kingdom. The first such figures were discovered three years ago. During the latest excavations, researchers found 15 more items.
Each figure is made in a unique style: some are simple, others contain many small details and look more elaborate. The site was probably once a religious place of worship. The objects found reflect the beliefs of the inhabitants who lived at that time in Asia Minor, or Anatolia.
The artifacts will be shown in one of the museums in Kayseri – for the time being, this will be a temporary exhibition, since the artifacts need to be studied in more detail. As for the city of Kanish, it was known in the XIX century. The name was mentioned in ancient stone tablets, which interested archaeologists and prompted them to go in search of antiquities.
