On 29 September 1885, the first electric tram in the UK passed through the streets of Blackpool. In the first decades, the city's tram system expanded rapidly and new branches were added. One company replaced another, new cars appeared. One of the features of the Blackpool tram that has survived to the present day is the double – Decker cars, which can also be seen today in Hong Kong and Alexandria (Egypt). The last expansion took place in 1926, and 10 years later the system began to be reduced. Sections of road were closed until 1966, and as a result, there was only one line still in operation – the path that runs along the promenade along the coast.

A wide variety of cars ran on the Blackpool tram lines: double-Decker Standard cars and Balloon cars, open Boat Cars, Jubilee class cars and others. In addition, "illuminated" trams are popular: by tradition, cars are designed in a certain style, sometimes they are completely re - equipped for this purpose.
