The Bank of Greece has released a limited edition new gold collectible coin from the "Greek mythology" series dedicated to Hermes. M. Antonatou worked on the design of the new product, depicting the ancient Greek God on the obverse as it can be seen on the lekif, a vessel for storing olive oil. This 2.5 thousand-year-old artifact is now in the Metropolitan Museum of art in new York. Hermes, dressed in traveling clothes, hurries on behalf of Zeus with a message. On the right is the inscription "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΜΥΘΟΛΟΓΙΑ" ("Greek mythology"), on the left – "ΕΡΜΗΣ" ("Hermes"). On the reverse side, you can see in detail the upper part of the staff that Hermes holds in his left hand. The face value of the coin is 100 euros, and the circulation is 1200 copies. The weight of one copy is 3.89 g.

In Greek mythology, Hermes is the God of Commerce and patron of messengers and ambassadors. The gods send him to pass on their will. In the period of late Antiquity and Hermes, a new name appears – Trismegistus. Now he also shares secret knowledge with people, and is also one of the symbols of the occult. His image is often found in works of fine art: Hermes was depicted by Raphael, Rubens and other masters.
