The philosophical works of Cicero are one of the important components of his versatile activity. And despite the fact that he set himself not so much scientific as educational tasks, Cicero deserves a great deal of merit in this area. And the exposed lot is a confirmation of this.

Lot - two volumes of philosophy of Cicero in Latin, printed in Venice in 1552. The first volume is 536 pages long, the second 522 pages.

Cicero was the author of 14 philosophical works that were created in the period from 54 to 44 years. BC e. He wrote the first treatises on philosophical and political topics back in the 50s, when he "retired" from big politics. In them he tried to present the main achievements of Greek philosophy in an accessible way. Cicero believed that the authors existing at that time did not care about the style and laconicism of their works on philosophy.

The formation of Cicero as a philosopher was most influenced by the teachings of Plato. But later, while studying different points of view, he realized that the answers to his questions should not be sought within the same teaching. Philosophers from different schools can be both wrong and right.

Cicero tried to select precisely those provisions that would help create a pragmatic philosophy. A direction that met the principles of practical thinking and was not inclined to reasoning on abstract topics.

The ancient Roman thinker managed to leave behind a vast literary heritage. Already in the ancient era, his works, including philosophical ones, were standard in terms of style. And now they are one of the most important sources of knowledge about the life of Ancient Rome.
