On 10 October 2010, Sint Maarten and Curacao became self-governing States, while remaining part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The government of this country is still engaged in the foreign policy of both state entities, and also undertakes to protect them. However, the event itself is important in the history of the Islands. The Central Bank of Curacao and Sint Maarten issued a new coin to mark the anniversary of its status.

A numismatic novelty made of copper-nickel alloy was minted by the Royal canadian mint. The obverse of the 5-Guilder coin features a stylized Roman numeral X with the inscription "OCTOBER 10, 2010-2020"in the middle. On both sides you can see two flags: on the left - Curacao, on the right - Sint Maarten. Below is a map with images of Islands. The reverse shows the year of manufacture, the nominal value, and the inscription DE NEDERLANDSE ANTILLEN. Circulation - 100 thousand copies.
