The Hammond typewriter appeared on the Violiti website just over a week ago. It is unique in that it is one of the serial devices that are distinguished by a patented idea used only in the product line of the same name.

More than 100-year-old typewriter is located on an original stand and covered with an original cover. Even a sheet with instructions was preserved inside the latter. It is also equipped with “native” printheads, the logo of the manufacturer and the reseller. The uniqueness of the device is added by the ability to print in Russian and English.

Such typewriters began to be produced in 1884 by James Hammond. At first, his products had a curved keyboard, which later became straight.

The main feature of Hammond typewriters was the presence of convex printing elements on the "letter" circles. After pressing a key, they made a movement in a circle, stopping at the desired point. The latter was set individually and corresponded to the chosen letter or sign. These circles were interchangeable, so the typewriters could type in different languages.

In addition, the paper itself was pressed against the printing element with equal force during printing. After pressing the key, there was a blow of a flat hammer, released by a special spring. He pressed against the back of the sheet and left a print on the paper.

Despite the fact that all factories for the creation of typewriters have long been closed, these devices are receiving a rebirth in the hands of collectors. Among them, by the way, there are many famous people.
