In 1889, Paris hosted the world's fair, which was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Bastille. Participants of the exhibition showed various projects that were supposed to demonstrate the wonders of the future. Here they showed new textile equipment, steam mechanisms, automobile novelties, a photo booth and much more. In addition, the exhibition operated a huge 111-meter building - a gallery of cars, the construction of which spent 430 thousand francs. The cultural program included the Moulin Rouge cabaret, balls, and the premiere of Jules Massenet's Opera Esclarmonde.
