During excavations in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz, archaeologists found skeletons that belong to children who lived in the early middle ages. The finds date back to the X–XII centuries. It was during this period that similar ornaments were worn, extracted from the ground along with skeletons. If they were buried in the X century, they can be considered one of the first poles. In 960-992, the first ruler of Poland known to historians was Mieszko I, who is recognized as the founder of the Polish state.

The remains were found at a depth of 1 m underground between two city roads. Now more than a dozen graves have been dug here, some of them containing rings and other items (a knife with a handle made of bone). All the children were buried in wooden coffins, which were not preserved, but archaeologists found their outlines.

The archaeological discovery caused confusion among researchers. No one suspected that there was a medieval burial site here. In addition, the bones of some skeletons are unusually located. For example, one of the skulls is unnaturally turned to face the ground. One of the skeletons was missing part of a leg.
