Antique furniture is an obvious beauty, grace and rarity. She is able to emphasize not only the level of wealth, but also the refined taste of its owner. One such piece of furniture was sold on Violiti's website.

Lot - sideboard in the style of Henry II, made by French craftsmen in the 19th century. This is a carved oak piece of furniture 260 cm high and 170 cm wide.

Initially, such furniture was rather discreet. It housed not only dishes, but also food. Naturally, this affected her appearance. It was dark in color, without much decoration. The main requirement was spaciousness - the presence of upper and lower tiers with their own doors.

Beginning in the 17th century, the appearance of the buffets began to change. Glass began to be used. Now the dishes that were inside, in fact, were put on public display. They tried to fill the sideboards with expensive sets and glasses.

The lower tiers were reserved for storage areas for "heavy" dishes and supplies brought from the storerooms. As a rule, there were teapots, pots, sets of plates. As for supplies, these were cereals and essential products that were put on the table.

A little later, the craftsmen began to supplement the sideboards with drawers. There were cutlery, tablecloths, towels and napkins. Sometimes such boxes were equipped with special recesses for bottles, which made it possible to store them in a horizontal position.

The middle part of the sideboard served as a table top. They put dishes on it so that they cool down before serving.

Over time, the utilitarian function of the sideboards was replaced by a decorative one.
