China has updated the 5 yuan banknote, releasing a new model in 2020. The images and primary colors remained the same: the portrait of Mao Zedong on one side, the Taishan mountains on the back, all done in purple. Compared to the previous bill, the print quality is improved, the material resists wear and dirt better. The number indicating the denomination is printed using a special material that changes color depending on the angle at which you look at the number.

The 2005 banknotes are still in circulation, but will be withdrawn in the coming years. 5 yuan is the last banknote to update the fifth series, introduced in 1999. Earlier, the Bank issued new coins and banknotes in denominations from 0.1 to 50 yuan.
