One of the recent finds showed that there are many interesting treasures hidden in the Dnieper that can shed light on history. In the Zaporozhye region, archaeologists discovered a carriage - a wooden device designed to attach the barrel of a gun. The artifact is made of oak, decorated with iron decorative elements, its length is 4.4 meters. Archaeologists found the carriage near Khortytsia, at a depth of 9.8 meters. It is assumed that it was made in the XVII–XVIII centuries.
This carriage is probably designed to mount a powerful 32-24 pounder (13-15 mm) gun. Such weapons were used during the storming of fortresses and cities, they were fired at a distance of up to 7 km. This is a unique find for Ukraine. Such carriages are rare, they are stored in some museums in different parts of the world. They came across the item during underwater archaeological research: the part protruding at the bottom was first mistaken for a fragment of a ship.
