Greater Manchester police is responsible for policing the entire County. Today, the Department consists of 300 officers, 350 volunteer constables, more than 600 police support specialists and about 3,000 other employees. The division was formed in 1974 as a result of the merger of Manchester and Salford police, departments located in Lancashire, Cheshire and West Yorkshire. These images show how the vehicles used by police officers before and after the formation of the Department changed.
