The icon with the icon case called "Savior Not Made by Hands" is another interesting lot on the Violiti website. Collecting such items is fascinating both from the point of view of history research and love of antiquity.

The displayed icon is a sacred image of Christ with a restored icon case. Wood and gilding were used as the main materials for the icon.

The Savior Not Made by Hands is considered to be a special image of Christ, in which his face is represented on a board, clay board or tile. It is known that in Byzantine temples such faces were depicted on the drum of the dome opposite each other.

The origin of the relic, which served as the source of the iconography, is associated with several versions. But each of them points to the miraculous nature of its occurrence.

If we talk about collecting icons, then the most valuable for collectors of these items are museum-level icons. They are large, belong to some well-known icon-painting schools and were written no later than the 17th century.

Images dated by specialists to the 16th - 17th centuries are of lesser value. The same applies to old icons created in the period of the 18th and 19th centuries. But here, too, the level of preservation is no less important, belonging to ancient icon painting schools.

But it is worth remembering that the cost of such paintings is influenced by their condition, the material of the frame, the popularity of the plot, and even sometimes the history of existence. After all, some events are often associated with famous icons. Some even have donation inscriptions.

The icon displayed on Violiti is a lot of venerable age and history.
