Ukraine will issue a new silver coin in honor of Lesya Ukrainka

On January 21, a new silver coin will be put into circulation in Ukraine in honor of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the writer and translator Lesya Ukrainka. Both sides contain several design elements. The obverse shows the key of cranes flying away into the distance. To the side of them are two figures: a man and a woman, stylized as burning candles. It also shows the year of manufacture and the nominal value of the new product – 20 hryvnia. The reverse depicts a portrait of the writer, the years of her life (1871-1913), against the background you can see branches with leaves. The coin's circulation is 2500 copies.

Lesya Ukrainka is known for her poetic, dramatic, journalistic and other works, studied folklore (more than 200 folk melodies recorded from her voice). The writer repeatedly turned to ancient and Christian subjects, and also enriched Ukrainian poetry with new themes and motifs.
