The icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is a lot that simply cannot be ignored. After all, the image of this saint is considered one of the most revered in the Christian world. In the East, he is the patron saint of travelers, prisoners and the orphaned, in the West - almost all people, but mostly children.

The lot, which found a new owner thanks to Violity, is an icon with no frames depicting a saint on a wooden surface. The composition can be conditionally divided into 17 parts. The image of St. Nicholas, located in the center, is framed by biblical subjects.

As a rule, in iconography, Saint Nicholas is a tall old man with a wise look. His face seems to have an imprint of spiritual holiness and firmness of faith.

The image of the saint on the icons is half-length or full-length. He is always wearing episcopal vestments. In some cases, this is an episcopal miter. But in any case, the left hand of Nicholas the Wonderworker is adorned with the Holy Scriptures, and the right hand is raised in blessing. Sometimes he is depicted on icons with his hands up.

The iconographic image of the saint is so recognizable that the inscription with his name on the icon is considered optional. And without it, you can understand to whom the icon is dedicated.

In ancient descriptions, Saint Nicholas was often confused with Nikolai Pinarsky. This was due to the similarity of their biographies: both came from Lycia, were archbishops, revered saints and miracle workers.

Icons are both sacred objects and works of art. And very often only collectors are able to preserve, study and popularize them.
