The Philippines marked the anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Mactan by issuing a new 5,000-peso banknote. The bill was officially presented on January 17. On the front side is a portrait of the chief Lapu-Lapu, who lived in 1491-1542. Behind you can see the fighting figures on one side and the warship on the other. The reverse side shows an eagle on the background of mountains. Among the inhabitants of the Philippines Visayans (Visayans), there was a belief that all other living beings were descended from the eagle.

The Battle of Mactan took place 500 years ago, in the spring of 1521. The troops of the Filipino chief Lapu-Lapu defeated the Spaniards. The warriors of Mactan Island learned the weaknesses of European weapons. During the battle, they moved quickly, did not allow the enemy to aim, and struck at unprotected legs. It was in this battle that the famous navigator Fernand Magellan died.
