Soviet dolls made from pressed sawdust evoke ambiguous feelings. The desire to take a closer look, play, collect a collection and buy for investment. The lot sold on the Violiti website is rather related to the last two points.

A doll made of pressed sawdust, was created at one of the Soviet enterprises. Wig, clothes and shoes.

Dolls, as one of the types of arts and crafts, were considered the main decoration of the house. At first, they were made as amulets, without faces. For the head and torso, materials at hand were used.

Later, it was made to order for wealthy people. Porcelain was used for the faces and natural hair for the wigs. Nevertheless, dolls continued to be created from sawdust, fabric, and straw.

The production of dolls from pressed sawdust was established in the late 1940s. The head and body of the toy were stuffed with sawdust, primed and varnished. As a rule, such dolls were heavy and had to be played carefully. Otherwise, at the slightest chips, sawdust could fall out of them.

Later, dolls from press saws were replaced by gutta-percha products. The head, arms and legs were made from gutta-percha, a resin extracted from plants. She gave flexibility and elasticity to the details of the toy. The word "gutta-percha" has even become a household name. At the same time, the body of the products continued to be stuffed with sawdust or cotton wool.

For collectors, pressed sawdust dolls are of great value. They usually hunt for rare specimens, handcrafted or in good condition.
