Diego de Almagro – Spanish conquistador and Adelantado. The title of adelantado was given to the conquerors of the territories of the New World, who were personally commissioned by the king to explore areas that were not part of the Spanish possessions. Almagro participated in the conquest campaigns in Peru, and also became one of the first Europeans to set foot on the Chilean lands.

Almagro was born in 1475, and very little is known about his origins. At a young age, he ran away from home and entered the service of the mayor of Seville. The conquistador arrived in the New World in 1514 with the team of Pedrarias Dávila. A year later, he Almagro led his own expedition. Together with him, 260 people went on the journey, but Almagro had to interrupt the journey and return due to illness.

In 1525, the Spanish conquistador participated in an expedition, during which he lost an eye. Around the same time, the name of Peru first appeared. Later, Almagro, along with Francisco Pizarro, arrived in the Inca lands, and the Europeans conquered the empire. The invaders received a large sum thanks to Atahualpa's ransom.

The conquered territory was divided into two parts, one of which, called New Toledo (part of Chile), was transferred to Almagro, who became governor. During the anti-Spanish revolt, he took advantage of the favorable situation for himself: he marched against the Pizarro brothers and seized power in Peru. However, one of the brothers escaped, and the other was later released. The conflict did not end there, and in 1538 there was a battle between the forces of Pizarro and Almagro, the latter was captured, and in the same year was executed.
