Rare ducat sold on Violiti

Medieval. Today we will present a rare ducat sold on Violiti for UAH 163,430. The ducat was minted in 1686 during the reign of King Charles XI (1660-1697), the father of the famous opponent of the Russian Tsar Peter the Great - Charles XII. As can be seen from the map, the years of the reign of Charles XI were the period of the maximum expansion of the kingdom of Sweden, the apogee of the Swedish great power.
Charles XI was left without a father at the age of 4, and did not receive a formal education. The 19-year-old king and the Swedish state were faced with a test in the form of a war with two powerful opponents Brandenburg (the future kingdom of Prussia) and the united Danish-Norwegian kingdom. The war was named Skanskaya (after the name of the Scania region), for the possession of which the war was going on. The war lasted from 1675 to 1679. After the first setbacks, the king managed to rectify the situation, defeat the Danes and drive them out of Scania. The border between Denmark and Sweden, established as a result of the war, remains to this day.
The victory in the war allowed Charles XI to strengthen absolutism, the King devoted enormous influence to strengthening the army, putting things in order in the finances of the state, and developing industry.
The ducat we are presenting today is made of 972-carat gold. Ducats of this type were minted in 1677-1695. The total issue is 132388 coins, in 1686 only 6312 coins were minted. On the obverse there is a bust of the king, on the reverse there is a double monogram, three crowns and the year of minting. This coin is an excellent addition to the collection for those who collect history with Violiti.
