In Lviv, excavations were carried out on the Koliivshchyna Square, during which archaeologists found part of the protective wall built in the XIV century. Although the structure has not yet been fully excavated, it has already become known that its thickness is 2 meters. According to Nikolai Shnitsar, an employee of the Rescue Archaeological Service, they found fragments of a High wall that protected the medieval Lviv. It was the oldest of the three defense lines that were built gradually.

This is not the first time that the wall has been studied, but archaeologists have previously explored other parts of it. In particular, in 2012, one of the sites was located on Lesya Ukrainka Street. Last year, another plot was found on Mickiewicz Square, where work is still underway. The remains of the archaeological site are planned to be displayed in the basements of those buildings where it will be possible. Fragments of the wall on the Koliivshchyna Square will be marked with paint or paving stones of a special shape.

The high and Low walls were laid in the XIV century, the construction was completed before the middle of the XV century. These were the two main defensive lines until the third wall was completed in the 16th century. The length of the High Wall was 1,700 meters. Dismantling of the walls began in 1777, the demolition of the last section was completed in 1825.
