At the auction of Christie's in Hong Kong went under the hammer a magnificent diamond "Sakura" weighing 15.81 carats. The purple-hued decoration was estimated at $ 25-38 million, and the lot was eventually bought for $ 29 million. This amount was a record for similar pink gems. The lot was sold on May 23, information about the new owner was not disclosed.

"Sakura" is recognized as one of the largest diamonds, which attracts with its deep pink color with an admixture of purple. In our time, such diamonds are found infrequently, the vast majority weigh less than 0.2 carats, only 10% of all stones weigh more, while 4% have a similar color luster. Previously, the most expensive diamond in this category was a copy called "The Ghost of the Rose", sold in Geneva for $ 26.6 million. If we talk exclusively about pink stones, the record belongs to the Pink Star diamond: after bidding in Hong Kong, the giant weighing 59.6 carats went to the buyer for 71.2 million dollars.
