Painting "Annunciation", painted in 1746 by Johann Georg Bermüller, was exhibited at Violiti's website at the end of last month. The lot is supported by the expert opinion of the Bureau of Scientific and Technical Expertise "ART-LAB".
The exposed lot is a rectangular painting, decorated in a patinated and gilded frame. In the upper right and left corners there are wooden overlaid elements with floral ornaments. In the lower right corner there is an inscription consisting of a monogram and a date. It is applied with a thin layer of black paint and repeats the texture of the brush strokes of the work.
The plot of the Annunciation, lyrical and festive, has long been popular with painters. It is easily recognizable by the poses of the characters - images of Gabriel, the Virgin Mary, the Holy Spirit and God the Father and attributes - a lily, a spinning wheel, a paradise branch, a ray of light, the Book of the Prophet Isaiah.
As for the place of action, most often it was the interiors of houses. In Western painting, there are bedrooms. There was also a combination of several scenes of action with a breakthrough in space - Maria, hearing a voice at the well. In some works, secondary scenes were used in the background - Joseph the Betrothed, listening to the commands of the angel.
Some of the first iconographic schemes appeared in the II century in the Roman catacombs. They were finally formed in the Middle Ages, being reflected in the paintings of the 15th century artists. Especially famous are the works of Fra Beato Angelico and Simone Martini, Leonardo da Vinci and Botticelli, Jan van Eyck and Rogier van der Weyden. A worthy place is occupied by Johann Bermüller's vision of the Annunciation - a painting exhibited on Violiti's website in the section
"Icons. Cult items".
