In the Old City of Jerusalem archaeologists have found a golden female earring, whose age exceeds 2000 years.
The precious jewelry was twisted from gold threads and depicted an animal with horns. Most likely, it was a deer or antelope.
"This is the first time that someone finds a gold earring of Hellenistic times in Jerusalem, dating from about the third or the beginning of the 2nd century BC," said Yuval Gado, a professor of archeology at the Tel Aviv University, who excavated the site.
The animal that was depicted on the earring had expressive features: eyes, mouth. According to experts, the earring was created with the help of filigree technique: gold threads were twisted to create complex patterns.
Scientists believe that the ornament belonged to a rich woman.
