This unusual phenomenon lasted for 5 years. Lava was poured from the mouth of the Mauna-Ulu volcano in Kilauea, Hawaii from 1969 to 1974. And only recently the US Geological Survey published a picture taken in 1969 by photographer JB Judd.
It shows a rare lava fountain, 20 meters high. And this is one of the cases of gushing, which occurred in the first year of the eruption Mauna-Ulu. The spread of lava was so powerful that it overcame an 11-kilometer distance.
Such symmetrical luminous spheres of volcanic lava are extremely rare. At first glance it may seem that the dome fountain is located in the middle of the ocean, but in fact it is formed on land.
The eruption of the volcano lasted 1774 days and was considered the longest. However, the palm of primacy was intercepted by the Puu-oo volcanic cone, which continues to erupt since 1983.
