Vintage coins

Who hasn’t read the stories about treasure hunt where the protagonist is venturing out to distant countries, searching for treasures that would match the budget of European country back in the day? Or perhaps, filibusters, exploring new lands, clashing with Amazon tribes; or some medieval knights, looking for the Holy Grail, and, during their crusades, finding enormous treasures.

Some might have dreamt about finding captain Flint’s treasures – a chest full of old coins. The treasures are still out there, and the recent year’s finds (including vintage coins) confirm that.

Vintage gold coins discoveries

Archaeologists discovered something incredible in an old theatre’s basement in Como, Italy - ancient amphora, containing hundreds of Roman Empire’s coins.

On those vintage gold coins – pictured various Roman Emperors. The most “recent” pieces are 474 year AC. All coins were carefully sorted. Archaeologists theorized that person, who hid the treasure, was a private individual, not organization. And for an unknown reason, couldn’t claim it. This mysterious find only proves one thing, there are still a lot of discoveries to make.

Vintage coins value

Meanwhile, amateur archaeologists were pursuing the idea to find treasure on Jersey island (part of Channel Islands), based on local’s stories and historical references. They step by step had been combing the island. And as a result, found the largest treasure of Iron Age.

Historians think that those coins are 2000 years old, and are left by Celtic tribe, fleeing from legions of Julius Caesar. The owners of this wealth have never claimed it.

Amateur archaeologists found approximately 70 000 coins, with combined weight of 1 ton. And the vintage coins value reached 4,2 million pounds or 5,63 million US dollars.

Vintage coins for sale

Those who find treasures, like aforementioned, put their old vintage coins for sale in private auctions or museums.

But elderly couple from Zhytomyr region of Ukraine did something extraordinary. When they found 14-15 century Czech coins in their backyard, they donated them to museum and haven’t asked for any compensation. The value of those coins was at least 1000 US dollars.

Ellerby couple, from North Yorkshire, UK sold 18 century gold coins they found during refurbishment of their home, for 754 000 pounds. The coins were dated from 1610 to 1727.
