David Kunst left home in the town of Vasek, Minnesota on June 20, 1970 with his brother John. Having reached New York, the brothers went to Lisbon and continued their journey to the south of Europe - in Monaco, they met with Princess Grace, in Italy with Tour Heyerdal.

In 1972, John died at the hands of Afghan gangsters, and David himself was seriously wounded. After returning to Minnesota and treatment, four months later, David Kunst again reached Afghanistan and continued the march, this time with his brother Peter.

Not having received permission to enter the territory of the USSR, the Kunst brothers crossed Pakistan, India, and from Calcutta sailed across the ocean to the Australian city of Perth, from where they reached Sydney on foot.

During the Australian transition, Peter fell ill, and David finished the journey himself - on the ship he reached California and on October 5, 1974, he completed the last leg of the journey, appearing in his native Vasetsi.

In honor of the first documented world tour, the Governor of Minnesota declared February 21 (the day John died) to be Kunst Brothers Day. In 2004, a memorial plaque called Caledonia: The birthplace of David, Peter and John Kunst, who traveled around the Earth, appeared in their hometown.
