On the territory of the Spanish city of Ain, near Valencia, a well-preserved medieval sword was found.

The find was made during the conservation of the ruins of the castle of Benali. The length of the sword, equipped with a guard, is 94 cm, width - 13 cm. There are bronze rivets on the spherical top of the handle.

According to archaeologists, the sword was used in the XIV century. He even got his own name from the local people - Espadana.

Benali Castle was erected during the period of Arab rule. In the middle of the XIII century, it was conquered by the King of Aragon Jaime I. But, despite this, the population of the city was predominantly Muslim. The inhabitants of the city maintained their traditions and way of life until the beginning of the 16th century, when King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella ordered all Muslims of Castile and Aragon to be baptized or leave the country.

In the XIV century, Benali became the site of fierce battles during the so-called "War of the Two Pedro" - the border conflict between Pedro of Castile and Pedro IV of Aragon. As a result of fierce battles, most of the castle was destroyed. Today, only a few sections of the walls, the lower tiers of one of the towers, as well as an internal drawbridge over the moat are left from the Benali Castle.

Two years ago, archaeological excavations began here.
