At an auction in the United States exhibited coin in 1943. The interesting thing is that they got it in the school canteen for change. Now over one million dollars is offered for this one cent coin.

This coin in the numismatist circles is called the largest mistake of the US Treasury. The fact is that she was minted from copper. During World War II, small coins were minted from steel in the USA. Copper has become strategic. But its current value is not explained by this. Simply, the US government has long denied its existence.

For the first time this coin in 1947 was received by a pupil of a school in Massachusetts Don Lyutes Jr. Her schoolboy received as a surrender. Already then the numismatists who wished to buy a coin turned to Lytes. Shkolnik wrote to the US Treasury to clarify its value. He was told that the copper cents of 1943 did not exist. He left a coin to himself.

Today it is known about the existence of 12 such copper cents. In September 2018, Lutes Jr. died. The family decided to sell his copper cent. Experts said that the value of the coin could reach 1.65 million dollars.
