The work, written during a single visit by the artist of Venice, was sold at auction in London.

The painting entitled “The Doge's Palace” by French impressionist painter Claude Monet was sold at Sotheby's auction in London for £ 27.5 million.

“This fascinating picture is a real masterpiece and is one of Monet’s greatest works written during his first and only meeting with Venice,” said Sotheby's head of the Impressionist and Modern Art department.

Claude Monet with his wife was in Venice in October-December 1908. The result of the trip was 37 works written by an impressionist artist on Venetian plots.

The Doge's Palace on the Grand Canal was written by Monet in three different variations. And this was done from the same point. Changed only the lighting and reflection in the water.

One of these canvases is now in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum in New York, and the other is in the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. The owner of the third, who bought it at Sotheby's auction in London, wished to remain anonymous.
