Near Kiev excavated the ancient home of the potter

On the territory of the historical and cultural reserve in Vyshgorod discovered the ancient dwelling of the potter. It happened during the renovation of the building in 1947.
According to the archeologists, this find is the only sample in the country of an artisan's house from the time of Kievan Rus.
“We guessed that there was a potter's house here, because a few meters away from him there is a museum horn for firing ceramics. And in the days of Russia there was a whole potters' block here,” said Vlada Litovchenko, director of the reserve.
Excavations here began in early May. The first valuable finds were found in June. Among other things, they found a door lock from the time of Rus, the remains of fishing gear and a buckle. This confirmed the scientists' conjectures that the structure found was a residential building. It was built of wooden planks, without a foundation, resembled a dugout.
“The potter's dwelling consists of several tiers: the lower one is the utility room or cellar, and the upper one is a room with a stove. Alas, she fell into the cellar, and now she will need to be restored,” noted Dmitry Bibikov, head of the Vyshgorod archaeological expedition.
During archeological research various artifacts were found, for example, children's jewelry and even toys - dozens of Byzantine glass bracelets of different colors and a clay horse with a horseman. Also, historians have found fragments of spindles, metal tools, and articles made by the potter.
The reserve assures that the unique find will be restored by the end of the year and will become an exhibit on the history of Kievan Rus.
