Actors of the French theater of the early 20th century in old photographs

These photos of the cast of the French theater "Comedie Francaise" of the early 20th century. Then on stage such stars as Sarah Bernard, Muné-Sully, Jules Trufier, Jeanne Ludwig, Jeanne Samare, Benoit-Constant Coquelin, Ernest Alexander Honore Coquelin, Gustav Worms and many others shone on the stage. Their popularity went far beyond the borders of France.
The Comedie Francaise Theater was founded by the decree of King Louis XIV in 1680. In this way, the Moliere Theater “Hotel Genego” and “Burgundy Hotel” merged. In the same year, the acting troupe of two theaters gave its first performance, which was quite successful.
In 1793, the theater was closed by decree of the Revolutionary Committee of Public Salvation, and the actors were thrown into prison. Six years later, he resumed his work.
During the XIX - XXI centuries, it remains the only national theater, the troupe of which is funded by the government.
