These photos of places where Kiev residents loved to walk at the beginning of the 20th century. Excellent places for simple walks alone, or for relaxation or entertainment in a noisy company. There were playgrounds, attractions, a library.
One of these places was Kiev Nicholas Park - now the Taras Shevchenko Park. It was founded in 1860 under the name University Square. In 1896 a monument to Nicholas I was opened in the park, which was demolished by the Bolsheviks in 1920.
In 1939, on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko, a monument to Taras Shevchenko, the work of sculptor Matvey Manizer, was unveiled at the site of the former monument to Nikolai I.
