Archaeologists reported on the results of the study of the reserve "Stone Tomb"

In the period from June 24 to July 3, 2019, archaeological excavations were carried out on the territory of the National Historical and Archaeological Reserve "Stone Tomb". They were initiated by scientists of the Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and reserve staff.

The object of the study is the multi-layered settlement “Stone Tomb”. The main works were concentrated on his most surviving site, not far from the excavations carried out by V. M. Danilenko in 1947 and D. Ya. Telegin in 1987.

At the first stage, the walls of the excavation of D. Ya. Telegin were cleaned, as a result of which it was possible to determine its depth. In 1987, the scientist, due to the high level of groundwater, was unable to explore the most ancient cultural layers of the sights.

In 2019, this excavation was deepened to 3.2 m, the lower, most ancient (Mesolithic) cultural horizons of the settlement were investigated.

Research by archaeologists makes it possible to fully trace the stratigraphy of the section of the monument, as well as compare it with the stratigraphy of the excavations of V.N.

Among the finds discovered by archaeologists were animal bones, unio mollusk shells, stone and flint tools, their fragments, as well as production wastes.
