“Tokyo, which I saw when I first arrived there in 1976, was not like anything else that I knew or saw before. I felt that I was “discovering” it for myself, and tried to take pictures of the way I saw and perceived it,” the young Greg Girard, who first saw the lights of this city, was so delighted with it.

The photographer has gained fame thanks to projects dedicated to Asian cities. In particular, Hong Kong and Shanghai. As for this series of shots, it was made at the dawn of Girard's career. Several years spent in Tokyo, allowed him to show the life of the Japanese capital on the verge of an economic boom.

“It was quite obvious that I ended up in a kind of sci-fi place - this word flashed through my mind when I looked at the city from the train window,” the photographer shared his impressions. - I thought: why didn’t anyone tell me about him? That first night, I realized that I wanted to stay.”
