Italian circus artist Maria Spelterina for 11 minutes went on a rope through the Niagara Falls. Then, moving back forward in 10 minutes, went back the way. Such a record was recorded among women for the first time - July 12, 1876.

A week later, she repeated the transition already blindfolded. A few days later - with bound hands and feet.

Maria was born in a circus family in Italy. Performed in Europe and Asia. To become famous - went on a rope above the rivers. She was fearless and knew how to keep her balance.

In August 1872, she stepped over the English Channel at an altitude of 30 meters. The following year in Catalonia, the audience won the performance, which balances on a chair on a rope.

In July 1876, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the United States of America, it is decided to take a stunning stunt. Over the Niagara Falls pull a rope between the American and Canadian coast. Through the waterfall, male acrobats were already passing. The event gathers thousands of spectators on both sides of the waterfall. The crowd applauds, the woman becomes the heroine of the national press.
