The Teylers Museum, located in the Dutch city of Haarlem, contains a collection of works of art, minerals and specimens of wildlife, and ancient tools. According to Taylor's will, his entire fortune was to be used to found a Theological community that studied religion, and to organize a community where experts studied science, poetry, fine arts, history, and numismatics.

A separate room is allocated for storing coins and medals. The numismatisch Kabinet is a room designed in 1888 and equipped with special display cases in 1889. The basis of the numismatic collection was the collection of coins by Peter Taylor, which included 1623 copies. It was later expanded with new collections from other collections located in the Netherlands.

Peter Taylor was born in 1702 in the Netherlands, and was a descendant of Scottish merchants. He actively participated in public life: opened a settlement for the poor, was a Trustee of an orphanage, and developed banking activities.
