At the beginning of this summer, on June 3, new coins with a face value of 10 hryvnia will be issued – at the first stage, more than 5 million copies will be introduced. The NBU plans to gradually replace these coins with 10-hryvnia bills, which will disappear from circulation as they wear out. Thus, citizens do not need to exchange banknotes for metal money – for some time these means of payment will be used simultaneously.
The diameter of the new item is 23.5 mm, weight - 6.4 g. The reverse shows a portrait of Hetman Ivan Mazepa. The material used is a zinc alloy, the surface is Nickel-plated. Due to its size, the 10-hryvnia coin differs from coins of smaller denominations. At the beginning of April, there were already more than 195 million 1-hryvnia coins in circulation, 190 million 2-hryvnia coins and 7 million coins with a face value of 5 hryvnia, which appeared later.
