Ireland has issued four stamps United by a single story as part of the pan-European theme "Ancient postal routes". This is a short story that tells about the path of a letter from the author to the recipient during the middle Ages. The first stamp shows a monk writing a letter, the second and third stamps show the message being transported by boat and then on a horse, and the fourth shows it being delivered to the recipient. The stamps were designed by the artist Orlagh Murphy. The size of each instance is 51x30 mm.
On the thematic envelope, you can see a simple map, also drawn by Orloh Murphy, which depicts the path of Giraldus Cambrensis from Dublin to Rome. A medieval British historian who lived in the XII-XIII centuries., known for such works as "Topography of Ireland", "Description of Wales", he wrote several biographies of famous saints. The visit to Rome was connected with his desire to become Bishop of St David's.
