The 1950s in Italy began with a sharp industrial development – the country began to surpass many other European countries in terms of industrial production growth. This was made possible by investing large sums in Italy's main industries in order to upgrade them. As is often the case, the population from villages and small towns began to move quickly to large cities. It was during this period that a series of these black-and-white photographs were taken that show Italy and Italians.
