Brown University (USA) is home to the John Carter brown library, which is based on his collection of old books. John's father and relatives were patrons of art, so they became a good example for the boy. After his father's death, he refused to continue the family business, abandoned the Brown & Ives company, and devoted himself entirely to books. Thanks to sales agencies, he bought books not only in the United States, but also in Europe. With the expansion of the collection, brown rebuilt his house where the books were stored. In addition to folios, he collected old maps. During his life, brown acquired more than 7,5 thousand. in addition, he made many contributions to the University, to which he gave books, and also participated in the campaign against slavery. The maps below are several centuries old.
