Sarah Bernhardt was born in Paris on October 22, 1844. She became so successful on the theater stage that at the beginning of the XX century she was recognized worldwide as the most famous actress. Sarah's childhood was not very happy. Until the age of four, she was raised by a wet nurse, then she lived in a gloomy house with a new nanny, but eventually she was reunited with her mother. The girl could not read or write, so she was sent to Madame Fressard's school for several years, where her artistic abilities are shown – Sarah participates in school performances. During one of the performances, she suffered a seizure and forgot all the words. Stage fright will haunt the actress for the rest of her life.

At the age of 13, Sarah Bernard began studying in the drama class of the Conservatory, in 1862 she first appeared on the big stage, but the beginning of her theatrical career was unsuccessful. A few years later, the actress gets a job at the Odeon theater, where she is finally noticed by critics: Sarah Bernhardt played Cordelia in King Lear. Every year, the actress improves her skills, judging by the reviews, she masterfully combined a complex technique with spectacular and somewhat artificial play. Among the most famous and famous roles of the actress, it is worth noting the role of Dona Sol from Hugo's drama "Ernani", hamlet, Theodora from the eponymous work of Victorier Sardou, etc.

In 1905, Sarah Bernhardt went to Brazil, where she severely injured her right leg. This incident leads to frequent and severe pain in the knee. In 1915, the actress amputated a limb above the knee, but even in this state, she continues to play until 1922. Sarah Bernhardt died in 1923 in Paris, when she was 78 years old.
