A set of writing instruments with the hallmarks of Veide Rudolf Konstantinovich was exhibited at Violiti in mid-October. The reason for the creation of such items was the popularization of private correspondence. But over time, they began to play not so much a functional as a decorative role.

A set of silver stationery is made in the neo-Russian style. The rectangular platform houses two removable glass inkpots and a horseshoe-shaped nib stand. The set is completed by a massive paperweight.

The writing utensils of that time were of a variety of options - massive and graceful, pretentious and elegant. Often they were decorated with the emblems or monograms of their owners. Often they were decorated with built-in clocks, small mirrors or hidden drawers.

As for the stylistic component, the neo-Russian style was considered a conventional name for several areas of historicism. Moreover, to a greater extent it manifested itself in architecture.

But this style did not pass by decorative and applied arts. The works of the masters were distinguished by the epic poetics of artistic images, theatricalization of forms, some symbolism and grotesque. They worked within the framework of the Art Nouveau style, based on a free interpretation of ancient Russian art.

Recall that Veide Rudolf Konstantinovich owned a workshop for the manufacture of gold and silver items in 1874-1915. His firm "Weide R.K." gained fame among antiquaries, mainly due to small items: jewelry, cutlery, crosses. Including writing sets.
