At the end of December 1978, an abnormally large amount of snow fell in Germany. Heavy snowfall continued for several days, in some areas the thickness of the snow layer reached 70 cm. Cities and highways were affected, and many localities were left without electricity. Due to problems with the transportation of coal, many enterprises stopped. And this was just the beginning: in February 1979, the disaster was repeated – again a similar amount of snow fell. These photos are a reminder of how unpleasant surprises nature can give us.
