June 16, 1215 the English King John the Landless signed the Magna Carta.

1667 - French doctor Jean-Baptiste Denis produced the world's first successful blood transfusion. To a 15-year-old boy, he poured about 12 ounces of lamb's blood.

1752 - Benjamin Franklin in an experiment with a kite proved the electrical nature of lightning.

1844 - Charles Goodyear patented a method of vulcanizing rubber.
